Amid speculations about opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election bid, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has reaffirmed that power will remain in the South for Tinubu to complete eight years before shifting to the North in 2031.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday while addressing a delegation from the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum, Ganduje emphasized the party’s commitment to zoning, stating that the North will take its turn after Tinubu’s tenure.
APC Committed to Power Rotation
Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, praised the youth group for its efforts in voter mobilization and public enlightenment, particularly in support of the government’s tax reform agenda.
He stated, “We are happy that our party believes in zoning. When a leader from the North completed eight years, we worked to ensure the next president came from the South. Now, our president is from the South, and by God’s grace, he will complete his second term in 2027. After that, power will shift to the North.”
Encouraging the youth forum to continue its mobilization efforts, Ganduje assured them of the party’s support, pledging to review their proposals and explore areas of collaboration.
Tinubu’s Reforms Already Showing Results
Ganduje also received the Tinubu Young Generation Forum, commending them for their role in promoting the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He acknowledged that the country had faced significant challenges before Tinubu’s administration but expressed optimism about ongoing reforms.
“There is no doubt that many things went wrong over a long period, and fixing them requires tough decisions. However, we are already seeing positive economic outcomes, and we believe these reforms will continue to yield results,” he stated.
As the 2027 election approaches, the APC chairman’s remarks reinforce the party’s stance on power rotation while rallying support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.
