The All Progressives Congress (APC) convened a high-profile caucus meeting at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, with several notable figures in attendance, including six governors who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling party.

The former PDP governors making their debut at the APC caucus are Sim Fubara (Rivers), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Pastor Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom). Alongside them were other former PDP leaders, including ex-Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and former Senate Presidents Anyim Pius Anyim and Ken Nnamani.

Key APC officials and lawmakers also attended the meeting, such as Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu. Serving and former governors, as well as members of the APC national working committee, were part of the discussions.

Observers from INEC monitored the proceedings, which focused on strengthening party unity, aligning priorities, and improving coordination across APC structures nationwide. Party insiders describe the gathering as a strategic move to bridge internal differences and build consensus ahead of the 2026 party primaries in preparation for the 2027 elections.

With senior figures from the Buhari–Osinbajo administration contributing to the dialogue, the caucus also served as a platform for reaffirming unity in the wake of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s passing.

As the 2027 elections approach, the big question is if the APC, now reinforced with former PDP leaders, is positioned strongly enough to maintain its dominance.
