UK Conservatives Consider Leadership Change as Kemi Badenoch Faces Growing Pressure
HeadlineNews.News — London, April 27, 2025
The United Kingdom’s Conservative Party is reportedly considering removing Kemi Badenoch as its leader, just six months after she succeeded Rishi Sunak. The move comes amid internal divisions, falling public support, and increasing anxiety ahead of upcoming local elections.

Growing Internal Discontent
According to party sources, a significant number of Conservative MPs and officials have raised concerns over Badenoch’s leadership style and her perceived inability to reverse the party’s declining fortunes. Some senior figures believe a change in leadership may be necessary to avoid an electoral disaster at the next general election.
Former minister Robert Jenrick has publicly criticized the party’s weakened grassroots organization and warned of traditional Conservative voters defecting to Reform UK and the Liberal Democrats. The Conservatives’ internal campaign structures are said to be fragmented, and morale is reportedly at an all-time low.

Speculation Over Reform UK Alliance
Talks of a possible alliance with Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party have fueled further tension. Although Badenoch has firmly rejected any formal pact, stating that her duty is “not to give the party away,” internal critics argue that even entertaining the idea reflects desperation. Labour leader Keir Starmer has seized on the turmoil, mockingly suggesting that Farage is “eating the Tory party for breakfast.”

Public Confidence Wanes
A recent YouGov poll revealed that only 14% of Britons view Badenoch as a future Prime Minister, with 55% expressing doubts about her leadership potential. Even among Conservative voters, almost half do not believe she is the right person to lead the party into the next election.
Senior Conservative figures, including former ministers Andrew Mitchell and John Glen, have urged the party to avoid rash decisions, warning that instability could worsen the party’s already precarious position.

What Lies Ahead
With critical local elections looming, Kemi Badenoch faces a defining test of her leadership. If the Conservatives suffer heavy losses, calls for her resignation may become irresistible, setting the stage for another leadership contest at a time when the party can least afford further upheaval.
For now, Badenoch remains defiant, insisting that the party must stay united to confront external challenges rather than turn inward.
