President Tinubu Allegedly Gifts Luxury Vehicles to State Coordinators Ahead of 2027 Elections
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reported to have presented luxury vehicles — including brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser jeeps, Toyota Hilux trucks, and Hummer buses — to each state coordinator of a newly formed political mobilisation structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sources who spoke to SaharaReporters on Wednesday revealed that the vehicles were handed over to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a nationwide campaign led and coordinated by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The event reportedly took place on December 1, 2025, where state coordinators gathered to receive the vehicles along with instructions on fundraising for the 2027 presidential campaign.
“Each state was instructed to contribute N1 billion to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ fund for Asiwaju’s 2027 campaign,” one source disclosed.
Governor Uzodimma serves as Director-General of the initiative, overseeing the distribution and coordination of the programme. Another insider noted that Tinubu’s endorsement of Uzodimma as the face of the campaign was deliberate, forming a key part of the mobilisation strategy.
“President Tinubu deliberately named Governor Uzodimma as the Renewed Hope Ambassador for the 2027 campaign. The vehicles are part of the political machinery being deployed nationwide,” the source said.
The timing of the gifts has raised concerns, coming amid escalating attacks by terrorists and bandits that have resulted in thousands of deaths and displacements across Nigeria. Critics argue that the allocation of resources for political mobilisation, rather than bolstering national security, demonstrates a disconnect from the realities faced by ordinary citizens.
“Despite the insecurity in the country, billions are being spent on cars for political campaigns while people cannot travel safely,” one insider remarked.
The developments follow the November 25, 2025 announcement by President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who formally appointed Governor Uzodimma as Renewed Hope Ambassador. In this role, Uzodimma also doubles as Director-General for Party Outreach, Engagement, and Mobilisation, coordinating with APC governors to ensure strategic party mobilisation and promotion of government achievements since 2023.
The appointment tasked him with promoting harmony, inclusiveness, and dissemination of party successes nationwide. APC members recently reaffirmed their support for Tinubu’s leadership in response to the formation of a coalition-backed opposition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which includes notable figures such as former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
The timing and use of substantial resources for political vehicles have sparked debate over priorities, with many questioning whether such expenditures are appropriate while terrorist and bandit attacks continue to threaten Nigerians’ lives.
