JUST IN: FINTIRI IMPOSES 24-HOUR CURFEW AS MANY FEAR DEAD DURING FRESH COMMUNAL CLASH IN ADAMAWA

Adamawa Governor Imposes 24-Hour Curfew in Lamurde After Renewed Communal Violence

The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has announced a 24-hour curfew in Lamurde Local Government Area following a new outbreak of communal violence.

Reports indicate that heavily armed Chobo-speaking militias from neighbouring Gombe State joined local fighters in launching coordinated attacks on Bachama communities in Lamurde LGA, leaving dozens feared dead. The assailants advanced from the creeks bordering Gombe, overrunning several settlements, including Tingno, Waduku, and two other villages.

“They’ve burnt Waduku and Tingno to ashes,” a resident said. “Our youths mobilised quickly to stop them from pushing into Rigange.” Another local confirmed that although the attackers attempted to move towards Lamurde, the LGA headquarters, they were repelled. “But Tingno and Waduku are completely destroyed,” he added.

The renewed violence comes just days after Governor Fintiri facilitated a fragile peace agreement between the warring Chobo and Bachama groups, according to Dr. Jamila Suleiman, Executive Vice Chairperson of the Adamawa State Peace Commission.

In response, the state government has imposed a round-the-clock curfew in Lamurde. In a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Hammangabdo, Fintiri directed security agencies to immediately deploy to the affected areas to restore peace and maintain order.

“The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash that broke out on Sunday evening,” the statement read. “Security agencies have been instructed to move into the area and restore peace and order without delay.”
