Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has passed away after collapsing suddenly in his office and being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, earlier today.

Born on September 5, 1965, Senator Ewhrudjakpo was 60 years old at the time of his death, a source who wished to remain anonymous confirmed to Vanguard.
The incident reportedly occurred around 1:30 pm, prompting an immediate emergency response. Eyewitnesses said he collapsed in serious condition and was quickly transported to the hospital’s emergency unit.

Preliminary reports indicate that the cause may have been a cardiac-related issue. Sources described him as a “workaholic,” noting that his demanding schedule often left little time for rest.
Security personnel have secured the hospital, while top government officials visited to pay their respects. Efforts to reach the deputy governor’s media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, for comment were unsuccessful.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo’s death is a significant loss for Bayelsa State, where he had been a key figure in governance and public service.
