LAGOS COURT JAILS ADONAI INSTITUTE PROVOST FOR FORGING LASU RESULT NOTIFICATION.

Lagos Court Jails Adonai Institute Provost for Forgery.

Samson Orijugo, head of Adonai Advanced Institute of Management, has been sentenced to three years in prison by a Lagos State High Court for forging a results notification on Lagos State University (LASU) letterhead.

Justice Modupe Nico-Clay handed down the verdict on Wednesday, ruling that Orijugo knowingly issued a falsified document to a student, John Chibuzor Okoro, in 2015 to create the false impression that his institution was affiliated with LASU.

Orijugo had denied the charges when arraigned in December 2021, but the prosecution, which presented multiple witnesses and documentary evidence, convinced the court that he had deliberately misled the student and his family.

The student’s mother, Patience Okoro, recounted how Orijugo approached her years earlier, claiming that his school in the Benin Republic was linked to LASU. She said he later provided her son with a results notification printed on LASU letterhead and assured them that a certificate would be issued—promises that never materialized.

Evidence from LASU and the Lagos State Ministry of Justice confirmed that Adonai Institute had no affiliation with the university. The court rejected the defence’s claims that a LASU official should have testified, stating that the documents presented clearly established the forgery.

Justice Nico-Clay concluded that Orijugo, as the provost, acted with full knowledge that the information was false, convicting him on both counts.
