13 BRIGADE: ARMY OPERATIVES RESCUE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS ALONG IKANG–CAMEROON WATERWAYS

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 13 Brigade, operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ikang, have rescued eight civilians abducted along the Ikang–Cameroon waterways.

The rescue followed a swift response to credible intelligence received on December 29, 2025, indicating that suspected militants had intercepted a commercial boat and kidnapped eight passengers, made up of six adults and two minors.

Acting immediately, the troops pursued the kidnappers, blocked possible escape routes, and dominated the waterways. Under pressure from the military operation, the militants abandoned the victims at the Ini-Abasi Fishing Port and fled into nearby creeks leading to the high sea.

The abandoned civilians were successfully recovered by the troops and taken to the brigade’s location, where they were documented and later released. No casualties were recorded during the operation, while patrols were sustained in the area to prevent regrouping or further criminal activity.

The operation was confirmed in a statement signed by Major Yemi Sokoya, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army.

Commending the troops, the Commander of 13 Brigade, Brigadier General P.O. Alimikhena, praised their professionalism, swift response, and dedication to protecting lives and property. He also expressed appreciation to members of the local community for providing timely and credible information that made the rescue possible.

The brigade reassured the public of its resolve to continue aggressive patrols and urged residents to keep supporting security agencies with useful intelligence to combat criminal activities in the area.
