TINUBU GIVES TOP EFCC LAWYER ROTIMI OYEDEPO NEW APPOINTMENT

President Bola Tinubu has approved the transfer of Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to the Federal Civil Service as the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Federal Ministry of Justice.

The appointment was confirmed in a letter signed on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, stating that the decision was made in the public interest. Oyedepo will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Abubakar Babadoko, who is due to complete the mandatory eight-year tenure as a director.

As Director of Public Prosecutions, Oyedepo is expected to strengthen federal prosecutions by reducing reliance on external legal counsel and ensuring greater consistency in the government’s legal strategies.

Oyedepo is a law graduate of the University of Ilorin and attended the Nigerian Law School in 2008. He spent over 15 years at the EFCC, where he specialised in prosecuting complex economic and financial crimes and served as Head of the Monitoring Unit.

He was also part of the federal government’s legal team in the high-profile Process and Industrial Development case against Nigeria. During his time at the EFCC, he received several recognitions, including Outstanding Staff of the Year in 2014 and Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor in 2019.
