Naheem Balogun, previously a House of Representatives candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 Lagos State governorship election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The announcement took place at De-Echo Event Centre in Egbeda, drawing ADC leaders and supporters from Alimosho Local Government Area.

Speaking to party members and well-wishers, Balogun highlighted the challenges Lagos State and Nigeria have faced over the years, stressing the urgency for a new leadership direction. He also urged citizens to secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing them as essential tools for active democratic participation and national progress.
“The 2023 elections sent a clear signal. We cannot maintain the status quo. As 2027 approaches, it is imperative that Nigerians obtain their PVCs and use them to shape a better future for our nation,” Balogun stated.

He further emphasized that the ADC is open to strategic partnerships, welcoming members of other political parties and individuals who share a commitment to effective governance and national development.
Wesley Odeyemi, ADC Chairman for Alimosho Local Government, pledged the party’s full backing for Balogun, promising to mobilize voters for a strong campaign.
Dapo Igbasan, the ADC’s House of Representatives candidate for Alimosho Federal Constituency, expressed confidence in the party’s ability to succeed despite political pressure, while Lagos State House of Assembly aspirant Gideon Adeniran highlighted the importance of party unity in achieving electoral victory.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, Lagos politics is shaping up to be highly competitive. Notably, last year, Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, joined the Lagos ADC, adding another twist to the emerging race.

As the contest develops, it remains unclear who the ADC will ultimately nominate for the governorship, even as the ruling All Progressives Congress continues to strategize to maintain its hold on power.
