LAGOS LAUNCHES AERIAL SURVEILLANCE PATROLS TO BOOST CRIME FIGHTING

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has commenced aerial surveillance operations across the state in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force Airwing Command to enhance intelligence-led policing and strengthen public safety.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 23, 2026, the LSSTF explained that the initiative is designed to deepen real-time monitoring, deter criminal activity, and improve coordination among security agencies.

The maiden operation, conducted the same day, featured low-altitude patrols covering both Lagos Island and the mainland, demonstrating the strategy’s operational reach and rapid-response capability.

LSSTF Executive Secretary Ayo Ogunsan described the aerial patrols as a vital step toward modernising security operations in Lagos.

“This represents a strategic investment aimed at protecting lives, property, and economic activities. The patrols will enable real-time monitoring of crime-prone areas, enhance situational awareness, deter criminal activity, and improve coordination among security agencies,” he said.

Ogunsan stressed that the programme is ongoing rather than a one-off exercise, sending a clear message to residents and criminals alike: law-abiding citizens can expect enhanced safety, while those intent on disrupting public order will face swift consequences.

He commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support in facilitating the initiative.

Commissioner of Police in charge of the Airwing Command, Martin Nwogoh, highlighted the efficiency of aerial surveillance after the maiden patrol.

“The patrol covered extensive parts of the state within minutes, showcasing the speed and flexibility of air support in security management,” he said.

Nwogoh added that beyond routine surveillance, aerial assets can support rescue missions, tactical operations, and rapid deployment of personnel when needed.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police Moshood Jimoh noted that the introduction of air patrols will significantly improve coordination between ground, marine, and aerial units.

The patrol route included areas such as Makoko, Yaba, and parts of Lagos Island, serving as a strong warning to criminal elements operating within the state.

The LSSTF reaffirmed that aerial patrols form part of a broader strategy to deploy innovative security solutions across Lagos. It assured residents that the flights are strictly for surveillance and public safety purposes and urged continued cooperation with law enforcement to sustain peace and security statewide.
