The Senate Committee on Finance has issued a warrant of arrest against the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, for repeatedly refusing to honour invitations to appear before the lawmakers.

The warrant was issued on Thursday, February 26, 2026, during a budget defence session with the Federal Ministry of Finance and its agencies.

Committee Chairman Senator Sani Musa accused Magaji of serial disrespect to the Senate, noting that the Registrar General had consistently ignored summons to explain issues related to the CAC’s finances.

“The Registrar General has refused on so many occasions to honour invitations and summons by this committee. We have issues with the reconciliation of the revenue of the CAC but each time we summoned him, he would send a junior officer,” Musa said.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu was the first to raise the matter, urging the committee to recommend Magaji’s removal from office by President Bola Tinubu.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole supported the motion, proposing that no budgetary allocation be approved for the CAC in the 2026 Appropriation Act until Magaji appears personally.

The committee also endorsed Oshiomhole’s suggestion to restrain the CAC from spending its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) without explicit approval from the National Assembly.
The development highlights growing tension between the National Assembly and certain federal agencies over accountability, transparency in revenue management, and respect for legislative oversight.

The CAC Registrar General’s continued absence from summons has raised questions about institutional cooperation and the enforcement of legislative authority in Nigeria.
Should public officials who fail to honour repeated legislative invitations face strict sanctions regardless of their office?
