LAGOS POWER DYNAMICS: INSIDE THE ALLEGED LOBBYING THAT PRECEDED TUNJI DISU’S APPOINTMENT AS IGP

In a political undercurrent ahead of a major leadership change at the Nigeria Police Force, sources say the influential Lagos “power bloc” strategically sidelined former APC national chairman Chief Bisi Akande to persuade President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint Assistant Inspector-General Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police.

Insiders told our correspondents that key figures within Lagos political circles mobilised support behind Disu’s candidacy, arguing his operational track record and alignment with the President’s security priorities made him the preferred choice.

The manoeuvre reportedly diminished Akande’s influence in the decision, illustrating how regional political dynamics shaped the transition at the top of the police hierarchy.

Disu’s elevation follows the retirement of Kayode Egbetokun and sets the stage for a recalibration of leadership within the force.
