The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed four officers from the Nigeria Police Force for their alleged involvement in the killing of seven traders in the Owode-Onirin area of the state.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed the dismissals while briefing reporters at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ikeja on Thursday, March 5, 2026. He stated that investigations into the incident remain ongoing, with significant progress already made.

According to the commissioner, the dismissed officers were allegedly recruited from Nasarawa State by the principal suspect, identified as ‘Ariori,’ who is believed to have played a central role in orchestrating the killings.
Jimoh emphasized the command’s unwavering commitment to accountability and justice, assuring the public and victims’ families that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness.

“This matter has not been swept under the carpet, and we want the public and all the families of the victims to know that nobody can stop us from ensuring that justice is done,” he said. “We will leave no stone unturned and will not be intimidated by anyone. All suspects will be prosecuted, and the courts remain open to hear every case.”
The commissioner revealed that approximately 98 per cent of the investigation has been completed, supported by forensic evidence including ballistic analysis and autopsy reports. He assured that the remaining steps are focused on finalizing the case file for prosecution.

The tragic incident occurred in August 2025 during a violent clash between land grabbers and traders in the Owode-Onirin market area.
CP Jimoh reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and ensuring the safety of residents and traders across Lagos State.

He urged the public, especially those in affected communities, to remain vigilant while assuring them that the police are fully committed to safeguarding their security and delivering justice.
The command vowed that no individual or group would be allowed to obstruct the ongoing investigation or the pursuit of justice.
