The U.S. Central Command confirmed that a KC-135 Stratotanker was lost during Operation Epic Fury, a campaign reportedly targeting Iranian military facilities. Officials stated that the crash occurred within “friendly airspace” and preliminary reports indicate it was not caused by hostile action or friendly fire.

Two aircraft were involved in the operation, with one crashing while the other returned safely. Search-and-rescue teams were immediately deployed to locate and assist any affected crew members. The command has not yet confirmed whether there were fatalities or injuries, noting that updates will follow as investigations proceed and families are informed.

This incident marks the fourth publicly confirmed loss of a U.S. aircraft since the conflict with Iran began. The escalation, which started with U.S. and Israeli attacks on February 28, 2026, has led to ongoing military exchanges, significant casualties, retaliatory strikes, and regional instability.

Following the death of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, the country has announced 40 days of national mourning and appointed Mojtaba Khamenei, the late leader’s son, as the new Supreme Leader.
