Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has visited victims of the recent bomb blasts in Maiduguri following his return from the lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
During the visit, Governor Zulum commended the Federal Government for its swift response, including the release of funds for clearance operations around Lake Chad and other affected areas. He also welcomed the directive for Service Chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to strengthen ongoing security measures.
The governor assured residents that support would continue for victims and families of those who lost their lives, while reiterating the commitment of security agencies to ending insurgency across Borno and the wider North-East region.

Earlier, while in Saudi Arabia, Zulum had condemned the Monday evening explosions as “despicable, cruel, and cowardly,” highlighting that the attacks targeted innocent civilians during the holy month of Ramadan. His Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, urged citizens to stay vigilant and called for heightened security at places of worship as Eid al-Fitr approaches.
Zulum noted that the recent surge in attacks is linked to intensified military operations in Sambisa Forest and other insurgent hideouts. He reassured residents that security forces are fully in control and encouraged citizens to continue with daily activities while reporting any suspicious movements.
The bombings, which occurred simultaneously near Monday Market and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital at around 7:00 p.m., left 23 people dead and 108 others injured, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the state.
