King Charles III came under criticism during a discussion on GB News, where presenter Patrick Christys questioned the value of the monarch’s planned state visit to the United States.
Speaking alongside panellists Will Kingston and Paul Cox, Christys raised concerns about the King’s role as “Defender of the Faith” and whether he would be willing to challenge Donald Trump on key issues.
Kingston, however, offered a more measured view, saying the visit could still serve a purpose, even if it doesn’t directly influence U.S. policy decisions. He described it as one of the few remaining tools of “soft power” available to the United Kingdom, adding that it should be used where possible.
He noted that while the trip may not change Trump’s approach to governance, it could help maintain diplomatic ties and goodwill between both countries.
The discussion reflects wider debate over the relevance of royal diplomacy in modern politics, especially at a time of shifting global alliances and growing political tensions.
