*The Book of Drinks – Kitab al-Ashriba … (contd.)*

Narrated Al-Bara:

The Prophet (ﷺ) came from Makkah with AbuBakr. AbuBakr said “We passed by a shepherd and at that time Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) was thirsty. I milked a little milk in a bowl and Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) drank till I was pleased. Suraqa bin Ju’shum came to us riding a horse (chasing us). The Prophet (ﷺ) supplicated against him, so Suraqa requested that he not supplicate against him and promised to turn back, and the Prophet ﷺ agreed.

*NOTE 📝*

1. The hadith under review highlights that the Hijrah (migration) from Makkah to Madinah was a defining moment in the history of Islam, filled with significant events that demonstrated Allah’s support for the mission of the Prophet ﷺ. It also emphasizes the great virtue and distinguished status of AbuBakr (may Allah be pleased with him), who played a central and honored role in accompanying the Prophet ﷺ during this pivotal journey. Furthermore, it reinforces the authenticity of the well-established Islamic narrative of the Hijrah, thereby invalidating unfounded or fabricated claims, such as the attribution of this event to figures like Felix of Nola, which have no basis in reliable Islamic sources.

2. In his commentary of this hadith, al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani discussed this hadith narration from Al-Bara ibn Azib describing the Prophet ﷺ returning from Makkah with AbuBakr during the Hijrah. The narration appears in both brief and detailed forms, with longer versions explaining how milk was obtained and prepared. The wording sometimes attribute the milking directly to Al-Bara, though this is understood as figurative, meaning it was done at his instruction. The term “kathbah” is also explained as a small quantity of milk, emphasizing the simplicity of what was shared. – Fathul Baari, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani

3. Ibn Hajar also addressed the question of permissibility in drinking milk from a shepherd’s flock when it did not directly belong to him. He stated that scholars explained that this was acceptable due to customary practice at the time, where shepherds were generally permitted to offer milk to travelers, or because prior permission from the owner was assumed. This reflects a broader understanding of social norms and mutual generosity in that context. – Fathul Baari, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani

*O Allah, all perfect praise is Yours, keep us firm upon what is lawful, and distance us from all that You have forbidden. Forgive our shortcomings and accept our efforts. Indeed, You are All-Hearing, Ever-Responsive. Ãmeen*

What is *Afiyah*?
*The SHORTEST POWERFUL PRAYER*
Al-Abbas (R.A.), the uncle of the Prophet (ﷺ), came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said:
“Ya Rasulullah, teach me a du’a.”
The Prophet ( ﷺ) said:
“O my uncle, say:
*ALLAHUMMA INNI AS’ ALUKA AL’AFIYAH*
(O Allah, I ask you for afiyah).
Know what is Afiyah?
Afiyah means –

● To be saved from any afflictions, you are in afiyah.
● To be healthy, you are in afiyah.
● To have enough money, you are in afiyah.
● To live, you are in afiyah.
● To have your children protected, you are in afiyah.
●And if you are forgiven and not punished, you are in afiyah.
So basically, Afiyah means:
*“O Allah, protect me from any pain and sufferings.”*
This includes both dun’ya and akhirah.

Al-Abbas (R.A.) thought about this for a while, and then he came back after a few days and said (paraphrased):
Ya Rasulullah, this du’a seems a little short. I want something big.”
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
*“My dear uncle, ask Allah for Afiyah for Wallahi, you cannot be given anything better than afiyah.”*
It is a simple du’a.
Sincerely mean what you say while praying.
“O Allah, I ask You to be saved from any:
distress,
grief,
hardship,
harm, and
don’t test me, etc.”
All of this is included in
*“Allahumma inni as’aluka al’afiyah”*
(Riyadh As Saliheen, Sunan At-Tirmidhi).
*Make sure to share this to others and tell r friends:*

Prophet Muhammed (ﷺ) said :
“Convey from me, even if it is one verse.”
*May ALLAH accept all our prayers.Ameen.*

A short khutbah-style reminder crafted in Arabic and English that you can use for today’s Jumuʿah. It’s concise but spiritually powerful, suitable for recitation before or after duʿāʾ.

Khutbah Reminder – Arabic & English

English:

All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His help, and ask His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our souls and the bad consequences of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides, none can mislead; and whoever He allows to stray, none can guide.

I advise you and myself first to have taqwā of Allah (God-consciousness), for it is the everlasting command of Allah to all generations. Allah says:
“And We have enjoined upon those who were given the Scripture before you, and upon you, that you fear Allah.” (Qur’an 4:131)

O servants of Allah, today is the blessed day of Jumuʿah, a day in which there is an hour when no Muslim supplicates to Allah except that his prayer is answered. So increase in duʿāʾ, in seeking forgiveness, and in sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ.

Jabir bin `Abdullah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Beware of injustice, for oppression will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection; and beware of stinginess because it doomed those who were before you. It incited them to shed blood and treat the unlawful as lawful.” [Muslim].
