President Donald Trump announced that U.S. forces successfully rescued a second airman who had been downed in Iran, calling it “one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. history.”

The announcement coincided with Iranian missile and drone strikes targeting Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, and Abu Dhabi. Trump stated that the rescued airman had sustained injuries but was expected to recover, adding that the operation followed a previous successful rescue the day before.

Iranian reports indicated that five people were killed during the rescue operation, while details about how the aircraft was downed remain unclear.
The conflict, which began on February 28 with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, has now spread across the Middle East, affecting the global economy. Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route for oil and gas, and continued its attacks on Israel and Gulf nations. U.S.-Israeli strikes in Iran have also targeted key economic sites, including a petrochemical hub in Khuzestan province.

Trump previously issued an ultimatum, giving Iran ten days to reach a deal or face intensified action. Iranian military officials rejected the threat, warning of severe consequences in response. Pakistan has offered to mediate, though violence shows no signs of abating.

The escalation has affected civilians across the region. In southern Lebanon, residents near the Israeli border faced bombardments while preparing for Easter Sunday, relying on aid deliveries to survive. Fires were reported in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi due to drone debris, and Hezbollah claimed an attack on an Israeli warship off the Lebanese coast.
In Iran, a strike near the Bushehr nuclear plant killed a guard, prompting Russia to evacuate 198 workers. Officials warned that continued attacks on the facility could have severe consequences for neighboring Gulf states. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed deep concern but reported no increase in radiation levels.

Meanwhile, Iran has maintained strict internal security, including nationwide internet blackouts—the longest in its history—and recent executions of individuals accused of collaborating with foreign governments.
