Leaders of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have visited top officials of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a show of support, citing growing political pressures on opposition parties in Nigeria.

According to a statement issued Wednesday by PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong, the visit was prompted by “recent political attacks targeted at Nigeria’s opposition parties” and highlighted shared concerns about threats to democratic processes.

“The leadership of the PDP paid a solidarity visit to the ADC leadership over recent political attacks targeting opposition parties, recognising similar pressures faced by our party,” the statement said.

The delegation, led by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and including figures such as Adolphus Wabara, Jerry Gana, and Babangida Aliyu, met with ADC leaders including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi.

During the meeting, both parties emphasised the importance of vigilance in protecting democratic principles and political plurality. ADC leaders thanked the PDP for the visit and reiterated concerns about the weakening of opposition parties, describing it as a serious challenge to Nigeria’s democracy.

The two parties affirmed the need for continued collaboration to safeguard democratic values and institutions ahead of upcoming elections.
