At least 40 people, including security operatives, vigilantes, and civilians, have reportedly been killed in a violent terrorist attack across Bagna, Erena, and Yelwa communities in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State.
According to sources, around 30 special forces and secret security personnel, along with 10 vigilantes, were killed during an ambush near their camp. The overall death toll is believed to be higher.

The attack on Bagna began Tuesday morning, forcing residents to flee. A local resident, who spoke anonymously, said: “Over 200 terrorists invaded Bagna early this morning and have been burning houses using explosives. As of this evening, Bagna community is on fire, with thick smoke rising.”
At least 10 vigilantes lost their lives while trying to confront the attackers at a camp shared with the Department of State Services (DSS). Many others were injured and hospitalised. Sources said the vigilantes were overwhelmed due to the terrorists’ superior firepower.

The raid followed a previous incident on Monday, when the attackers rustled cattle from Nada village before making their way to Bagna and launching multiple assaults on residents.
Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Morris Magaji, confirmed the incident but did not disclose the casualty figures.
The attack highlights the continuing insecurity in parts of Niger State and raises concerns over the protection of residents and security personnel in vulnerable communities.
