FG REROUTES LAGOS-CALABAR COASTAL HIGHWAY THROUGH OGONILAND TO HONOUR LATE MPIGI

The federal government has approved rerouting the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway through Ogoniland to honour the late Senator Mpigi Barinada Barry.

Speaking at a Night of Tribute in Abuja yesterday, Minister Umahi described Senator Mpigi’s death as a profound loss to the nation. He praised the late lawmaker’s unwavering commitment to national development, integrity, and bridge-building in the Senate.

“Senator Mpigi’s impact went beyond his constituency, with notable projects across Lagos, Ogun, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Kano states,” Umahi said.

He described the late Rivers South-East Senator as “a man of impeccable integrity, whose word was his bond—a quality rare in politics.” Umahi also highlighted Senator Mpigi’s key role in resolving challenges on major road projects, including the Bodo-Bonny Road and the Eleme-Onne section of the East-West Road in Rivers State.

In recognition of his service, Umahi announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved the highway’s rerouting through Ogoniland. He assured the senator’s family of the federal government’s support and pledged to sustain Senator Mpigi’s developmental vision.

The minister prayed for the repose of Senator Mpigi’s soul and urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from his legacy of integrity, patriotism, and dedicated service.
