Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked a poultry farm in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing a woman and her daughter during a violent kidnapping attempt.
The attack occurred on Thursday in Igushi, via Ala, Akure, when about five armed assailants stormed the farm, opened fire, and caused panic among workers on the premises.
During the assault, the attackers reportedly killed the farm owner and her daughter while trying to abduct other individuals present at the facility.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, described the attack as tragic and condemnable, stating that security operatives responded quickly after receiving a distress call.
He said two victims were successfully rescued during a coordinated operation by security forces, though the command regretted the loss of two lives in the attack.
The police further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible for the incident.
Authorities have also urged residents to remain vigilant and assist security agencies with useful information that could support ongoing investigations.
