INSECURITY WILL STOP AFTER 2027 ELECTION: AKPABIO DECLARES

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that the recent rise in insecurity across the country is connected to the approaching general elections, adding that the situation would improve after the polls.

He made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja during the official launch of the Nigeria Revenue Service Corporate Headquarters.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu is performing well, but opposition elements who are unhappy with his administration are allegedly resorting to sponsoring insecurity to create tension in the country.

Akpabio expressed confidence that the security situation would stabilise once the election period is over.

“Insecurity is increasing because election is coming. People don’t know what to do again. Immediately after the election, two weeks after, insecurity will stop. The insecurity is being sponsored by people,” he said.

He also took a swipe at the opposition, saying they are divided and struggling to stay relevant. He referenced the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, suggesting that political realignments within the opposition show instability.

According to him, opposition parties are in disarray, while the ruling party remains focused and united.

Akpabio urged Nigerians to be patient with the current administration, insisting that it is working in the best interest of the country.

He also praised the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, describing him as an effective tax administrator who has gained public acceptance despite the unpopular nature of tax collection.

The event was attended by President Bola Tinubu, top government officials, lawmakers, and several state governors, including Babagana Zulum of Borno, Charles Soludo of Anambra, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Hope Uzodimma of Imo, and Usman Ododo of Kogi.

The newly inaugurated revenue service headquarters is a 16-floor complex spread across three towers and is designed to house about 3,000 staff members.

The transformation follows the signing of the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act in June 2025, which replaced the Federal Inland Revenue Service with the new structure.
