LAGOS APC MEMBERS ALLEGE PLOT TO IMPOSE CANDIDATES, DEMAND DIRECT PRIMARIES

A faction of aggrieved members of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over alleged moves by some party leaders to impose candidates ahead of upcoming legislative elections.

In a statement signed by Tunde Samson on behalf of concerned members, the group accused senior party figures, including James Faleke, Cornelius Ojelabi, and Mutiu Are, of holding secret meetings aimed at compiling a predetermined list of candidates for both the House of Representatives and the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The group alleged that such actions violate the party’s commitment to direct primaries and represent a breach of internal democracy, warning that any attempt to impose candidates would be strongly resisted by members.

They further claimed that similar issues have occurred in past local government elections in Lagos State, where they allege irregularities and candidate imposition undermined the electoral process.

The statement also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, describing him as a strong advocate of transparent and democratic party primaries and urging him to ensure fairness within the party structure.

The aggrieved members warned that failure to conduct free and fair primaries could lead to serious internal conflict within the party ahead of the elections.

Efforts to obtain responses from the accused party leaders were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
