TINUBU APPOINTS OYEDELE AS NEW FINANCE MINISTER AFTER REMOVING WALE EDUN

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, replacing Wale Edun in a fresh cabinet reshuffle.

The decision was announced in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance, has now been elevated to take charge of the ministry. Edun has been directed to begin the handover process immediately.

The reshuffle also extends to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. The outgoing minister, Ahmed Dangiwa, is set to leave office, while Muttaqha Darma has been named as his replacement, pending confirmation.

The presidency said all handovers are expected to be completed on or before April 23, with interim measures already in place to ensure a smooth transition and continuity in governance.

Explaining the reason behind the changes, Akume said the reshuffle is aimed at strengthening coordination within the cabinet and improving the government’s economic performance.

“The changes are designed to strengthen cohesion and synergy in governance and enhance the administration’s capacity to deliver more impactful economic outcomes,” he stated.

President Tinubu also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing ministers and wished them well in their future endeavours.

The latest move reflects ongoing efforts by the administration to reposition its economic team and reinforce its policy direction amid current economic challenges.
