The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has warned the public over the circulation of false claims suggesting it is selling refinery scrap materials, equipment, and components to private individuals and companies.

In a statement issued on Friday by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the company firmly denied reports alleging that it had invited bids, tenders, or expressions of interest for the sale of scrap items from its refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna.
NNPC described the claims as misleading and completely false, stressing that it has not authorised any sale of refinery equipment, scrap materials, or inventory from any of its facilities.

The company also raised concern over individuals impersonating its officials or agents to fraudulently claim involvement in such alleged sales, warning that they are not authorised representatives and should be disregarded.
It advised members of the public, businesses, and stakeholders to be cautious and avoid engaging with anyone making such offers, adding that any legitimate asset disposal would only be carried out through official, transparent channels communicated publicly.

NNPC further encouraged the public to report suspicious individuals or activities to law enforcement agencies, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and proper management of national energy assets.
The company also noted that all refinery asset processes, when applicable, would follow regulated procedures and be announced through official platforms.
The statement comes as Nigeria’s major refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna remain largely inactive despite ongoing discussions about rehabilitation and revival efforts.
