President Bola Tinubu on Friday held a closed-door meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, along with some federal lawmakers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which was not listed on the President’s official schedule, reportedly took place shortly after the lawmakers joined him for Jumu’ah prayers at the State House Mosque.

Sources at the Villa confirmed that Speaker Abbas arrived with other members of the House, including the Chief Whip, Usman Kumo, who represents Akko Federal Constituency of Gombe State.

Although the details of the discussions were not made public, aides at the Villa described the engagement as part of ongoing consultations between the presidency and federal legislators ahead of the 2027 general elections.

One source noted that similar meetings had recently been held with Senate leadership, suggesting coordinated political engagements within the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The development comes just days after President Tinubu also met with Senate leaders on Wednesday and held a separate meeting with state governors on Thursday night.

During the meeting with governors, it was reported that the President advised them to oversee party primaries in their states in accordance with the Electoral Act, whether through consensus arrangements or direct primaries. Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, later confirmed this position, stating that governors had been given responsibility to manage the process.

The APC has already scheduled its House of Representatives primaries for May 15, 2026, with the sale of nomination forms expected to begin shortly.

Political analysts say the series of high-level meetings signals early political negotiations and strategic positioning within the ruling party as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
