The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar following a viral photo from the opposition summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, which appeared to show Atiku dozing off during proceedings.
The summit brought together major opposition figures, including Atiku, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and former Governor of Kwara State Abdulfatah Ahmed. The gathering was part of ongoing efforts by opposition blocs to build a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the mood online shifted after a photo surfaced showing Atiku seemingly asleep while discussions were ongoing. The image quickly sparked reactions across political circles and social media.

Reacting via his X handle on Sunday, Basiru shared the photo and accompanied it with a pointed remark: “And the opposition leader slept at the all-important opposition summit.”
The APC secretary also referenced the image in response to another post suggesting that the ruling party was unsettled by the opposition’s move to close ranks, using the moment to dismiss claims of panic within APC ranks.
The Ibadan summit itself is part of broader political consultations among opposition leaders seeking to agree on a common presidential candidate and strategy ahead of 2027. Political alignments and counter-alignments have continued to intensify as the election season draws closer.
