SENATOR ABARIBE, ORIGINALLY FROM APGA, ANNOUNCES EXIT FROM ADC, JOINS LABOUR PARTY

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Labour Party (LP), marking another major shake-up within the opposition camp.

The lawmaker representing Abia South Senatorial District announced his move just weeks after leaving the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the ADC, a decision that had stirred reactions within the Senate.

Abaribe was part of a group of prominent politicians who aligned with the ADC in a bid to strengthen opposition politics ahead of future elections. However, his time in the party was surrounded by controversy after some lawmakers challenged his defection on constitutional grounds.

The lawmakers had argued that there was no internal crisis within APGA to justify his exit, insisting his Senate seat should be declared vacant under constitutional provisions.

His latest move to the Labour Party is coming shortly after the party unveiled its timetable for primary elections, fueling speculation that the former Minority Leader may be preparing for another electoral contest under the LP platform.

The development also follows the recent departure of several top political figures from the ADC, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who reportedly moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Unlike them, Abaribe chose the Labour Party, a move many observers see as a further sign of cracks within the former opposition alliance.

Political analysts believe his entry could strengthen the Labour Party in Abia State, where the party currently holds power.

Meanwhile, the ADC continues to face growing challenges, including legal battles and increasing defections involving some of its key members.
