Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has officially obtained the governorship nomination form of the African Democratic Congress for the 2027 Kebbi State governorship election.
In a statement released in Birnin Kebbi on May 9, 2026, Malami said the decision was driven by what he described as the worsening condition of Kebbi State, declaring a “State of Emergency on Misgovernance.”
The former minister expressed concern over rising insecurity, poverty, poor healthcare, economic hardship and the declining state of education in the state.
According to him, more than 67 percent of children between the ages of six and 15 are currently out of school, while over 88 percent reportedly live in multidimensional poverty.

Malami also raised alarm over the healthcare situation in Kebbi, noting that maternal mortality remains among the highest in the country, while malaria and malnutrition continue to affect women and children, especially in rural communities.
Speaking on insecurity, he said several communities across the state have remained under threat from bandit attacks, forcing many farmers to abandon their farmlands and businesses due to fear and uncertainty.
“This is not the Kebbi we deserve. This is not the future our children deserve,” Malami said, while accusing the current administration of neglecting critical sectors affecting the lives of residents.
He promised to prioritise security, improve education and healthcare, revive agriculture, create opportunities for youths and promote accountable leadership if elected governor.
Malami also stated that the time had come to end what he described as “empty propaganda and ineffective leadership,” pledging to work with residents to rebuild Kebbi State and restore public confidence in governance.
