Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, represented by former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Betta Edu, said the programme was designed to provide food assistance to vulnerable families and strengthen food security nationwide.

She explained that the initiative, supported by private partners, operates in multiple states each month and has already reached 25 states along with the Federal Capital Territory, with Rivers State becoming the 26th beneficiary.

According to her, the programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which focuses on improving welfare and ensuring food sufficiency for Nigerians.

She also disclosed plans to establish food banks in primary healthcare centres across local government areas to support pregnant women and nursing mothers.

The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Ngozi Odu, described the initiative as a meaningful intervention that restores dignity to vulnerable families while providing social support.

She noted that the programme reflects the state government’s commitment to improving socio-economic conditions and should be seen as a responsibility of governance rather than charity.

The Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Valeria Fubara, also commended the initiative, stating that it has continued to positively impact families and individuals in the state.

She revealed that more than 5,000 people have benefited from previous rounds of the outreach, with the latest phase covering over 1,800 families.

The programme is part of broader social investment efforts aimed at reducing hunger and improving welfare across Nigeria.
