The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has revealed why efforts by Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to join the party did not succeed.

Baba-Ahmed said discussions were held between the party and the two prominent politicians amid speculation that they were considering leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), but the talks eventually broke down due to disagreements.
According to him, the major point of contention was the conditions attached to their proposed entry into the PRP, particularly demands linked to the party’s presidential ticket.

He explained that both politicians reportedly sought assurances that they would be automatically given top positions within the party structure without undergoing internal competition.
Baba-Ahmed stated that the PRP rejected the request, insisting that its democratic process requires open contest rather than pre-determined candidacies.

He added that the party made it clear that anyone joining must first become a member before expressing interest in any position, including the presidency or running mate slot.

The PRP chairman further questioned the logic of demanding automatic tickets, arguing that strong candidates should not fear internal competition.
He concluded that the disagreement over internal party democracy ultimately led to the collapse of the discussions.
