The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its senatorial primaries in Osun State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with incumbent lawmakers and new entrants securing party tickets across the three senatorial districts.

In Osun East, Senator Francis Fadahunsi secured the APC ticket after polling 23,593 votes to defeat his challengers, Famurewa Israel, who scored 472 votes, and Thomas Ogungbangbe, who got 806 votes. Fadahunsi, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Industry, was first elected to the Senate in 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party and was re-elected in 2023 under the same platform before defecting to the APC in 2025 alongside other lawmakers.

In Osun Central, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi lost his re-election bid after being defeated by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adekunle Adegoke, who secured 26,655 votes against Fadeyi’s 13,138 votes. Other contenders in the race included Yomi Ogunwale with 2,925 votes, Akintunde Adegboye with 342 votes, and Olu Fakeye with 67 votes.

For Osun West, insurance expert Dr Akin Ogunbiyi clinched the APC ticket with 30,568 votes, while his closest rival, Gafar Akintayo, polled 1,215 votes. Another aspirant, Peter Ogundeji, who had earlier withdrawn from the contest, recorded 14 votes.

The party leadership praised the conduct of the primaries across the state, describing the process as peaceful and successful. It urged members and supporters to remain calm, avoid inflammatory remarks, and make use of internal party mechanisms to resolve disputes where necessary. The party also emphasized unity, stating that all candidates should be supported in the interest of collective progress.Category: Elections
