In a statement personally signed and sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday, the governor said his decision followed deep reflection and consultations with family members, associates, and political allies.

He emphasized that leadership often requires sacrifice, noting that personal ambition must sometimes give way to the broader interest of the people.

Fubara stated that Rivers State’s peace and stability were more important than individual political aspirations, adding that he would support whoever eventually emerges as the party’s candidate.

Although he did not give detailed reasons for his withdrawal, the governor hinted that he had faced significant political pressure and difficult circumstances leading to his decision.

He used a traditional expression suggesting that some political realities are not always publicly disclosed, implying that his choice was made after careful consideration of sensitive factors.

The governor also assured his supporters that his decision was not a sign of weakness or defeat but a deliberate step aimed at preserving unity in the state.

He thanked the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their support throughout the process and reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Rivers State until the end of his tenure.

Before his withdrawal, reports indicated that several of his political allies were excluded from various APC screening processes, while associates of rival political figures were cleared to contest, a situation that reportedly intensified internal tensions within the party in Rivers State.
