Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has secured victory in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary held in Yobe State, where he reportedly polled a total of 44,841 votes.

The results were announced on Monday night by the returning officer, Ma’am Kyari, who declared that Mohammed Hayatu-Deen scored 365 votes, while Rotimi Amaechi polled 300 votes in the contest.
The ADC governorship candidate in Yobe State, Kashim Gana Geidam, commended party members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise, expressing optimism that the party has a strong chance in future elections.

The primary election was part of a nationwide exercise conducted across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards, where members voted using the Option A4 system by openly lining up behind their preferred candidates.

The contest is seen as a significant step for the ADC as it positions itself ahead of the 2027 presidential election, aiming to emerge as a major opposition force against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
