“IT WAS THE SYSTEM” — NWOKO CAMP OPENS UP ON DELTA NORTH PRIMARY BATTLE AGAINST OKOWA BLOC

The Senator Ned Nwoko Campaign Organisation has alleged that the recently concluded Delta North senatorial primary election was marked by political exclusion aimed at sidelining Senator Ned Nwoko due to his growing influence in the region.

In a statement issued by the Legal Adviser to the campaign organisation, Dr. Amaechi Okoba, the group claimed that the former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, was being used as a “decoy,” while the real opposition to Nwoko stemmed from entrenched political interests within the state structure.

The organisation further alleged that certain political actors were uncomfortable with Nwoko’s increasing influence, particularly in relation to his advocacy for the creation of Anioma State.

According to the statement, supporters believe that efforts were allegedly made to weaken his political base, including reduced access to appointments for individuals linked to him and limited attention to key infrastructural demands in Delta North.

Projects such as the Okpai power initiative and the rehabilitation of the Onicha-Ugbo–Idumuje-Ugboko–Abuja road were cited as examples of developmental concerns they say were not adequately addressed.

The group also claimed that growing calls for the creation of Anioma State were politically sensitive, as they could further strengthen Nwoko’s standing in the region.

It added that Nwoko’s eventual move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by the belief that a new political platform would better support his development agenda for Delta North.

The statement further argued that the senator has since facilitated various interventions across education, healthcare, agriculture, water supply, youth empowerment, road construction, and electrification projects across the nine local government areas in the district.

The campaign organisation maintained that political competition should prioritise service delivery and development rather than efforts to curb individual influence, stressing that governance outcomes should remain the true measure of leadership.
