NDC Disowns Circulating Primary Results, Schedules Emergency NEC Meeting
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed several results from its recently concluded nationwide primaries currently circulating on social media, insisting that only the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) has the authority to announce the official outcome of the exercise.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, urged members of the public and party supporters to disregard any unofficial results being shared online, describing them as unauthorised.
According to him, the official results of the primaries conducted across the country on May 28 and 29 remain with the party’s National Executive Council, which is responsible for reviewing and announcing the outcome.
“The general public is advised to disregard the various results circulating on social media regarding the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress on May 28 and 29, 2026. The results are currently with the National Executive Council, which is solely responsible for making any official announcement,” the statement said.

The party also revealed that an emergency NEC meeting has been scheduled for next week to deliberate on the outcome of the primaries and address other issues arising from the exercise.
Director disclosed that the meeting was convened on the directive of the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson.
According to the statement, NEC members have been directed to arrive in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, June 2, while the main NEC meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
“On the directive of our National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, a NEC meeting has been called. All NEC members are expected in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on June 2, while the NEC meeting itself will hold on June 3,” he stated.
The party assured stakeholders that the final list of successful candidates would be made public after the necessary ratification process has been completed and before submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The public and stakeholders will be informed of the outcome of the primaries once the party concludes its internal processes and submits the list of candidates to INEC,” the statement added.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation and conflicting reports over the results of the primaries, which were organised nationwide to select candidates for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers expect the upcoming NEC meeting to play a crucial role in ratifying the results, resolving disputes, and finalising the party’s candidates before the official submission to the electoral commission.
