Former Adamawa North senator, Ishaku Abbo, has been confirmed as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Adamawa State following a primary election held in Yola.
His emergence comes amid heightened public attention and regulatory scrutiny linked to recent allegations involving repeated breaches of restricted airport security protocols at the Yola Airport by his wife, Patience Abbo.

Reports surrounding the incident indicate that she allegedly accessed a restricted airside zone on multiple occasions while accompanying the former senator to an aircraft boarding area. The development has since triggered a ministerial investigation led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, over concerns about possible breaches of aviation safety rules.

Although airport officials initially claimed that the individual involved misled security personnel by presenting herself as a ticketed passenger, further video evidence reportedly suggested a recurring pattern of access violations, intensifying scrutiny and prompting a deeper probe into airport security compliance and oversight.
Despite the controversy, the Labour Party proceeded with its candidate affirmation exercise in Yola, where Abbo and other unopposed aspirants were endorsed through voice votes by delegates and party representatives. The exercise also produced candidates for senatorial districts, House of Representatives seats, and state assembly constituencies in Adamawa.

Party officials maintained that the process adhered strictly to electoral guidelines and internal party regulations, while also expressing confidence in their readiness for the 2027 general elections and calling for unity and stronger grassroots mobilisation among members.
Aviation stakeholders have, however, raised concerns about the broader implications of the incident, pointing to potential violations of Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations that strictly prohibit unauthorized access to secure airport zones due to safety risks associated with active flight operations.

The ongoing investigation is expected to determine whether airport personnel followed proper procedures and whether any disciplinary measures will be taken.
Efforts to obtain comments from the newly confirmed governorship candidate regarding both the nomination and the ongoing investigation were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
