Speaking through a representative at the 15th National Security Seminar in Abuja, Ribadu emphasized that the country’s stability and territorial integrity depend largely on the effectiveness of its border security system.

He noted that while Nigeria’s vast land and maritime borders create opportunities for trade, economic growth, and regional cooperation, they also present significant security challenges that criminal and terrorist groups continue to exploit.

According to him, inadequate border management increases vulnerabilities that can facilitate illegal activities, including the movement of weapons, trafficking of persons, smuggling operations, and other forms of transnational organized crime.

Ribadu highlighted the importance of the National Border Management Strategy, describing it as a key component of the country’s efforts to strengthen border security through a coordinated and integrated approach.

He explained that the strategy focuses on improving intelligence gathering and sharing, upgrading border infrastructure, enhancing surveillance systems, and modernizing border management processes across the country.

The NSA also noted that the deployment of digital border management technologies at major entry and exit points has improved data collection, traveler screening, and migration monitoring.

To further address emerging security threats, he called for the full implementation of an integrated border management framework that would enhance collaboration among security agencies, intelligence services, and law enforcement bodies.

He stressed that effective intelligence sharing, joint operations, and harmonized border procedures remain critical to combating modern security challenges.

Ribadu further advocated increased investment in technology-driven solutions, including biometric identification systems, advanced surveillance tools, and data-based security platforms to strengthen Nigeria’s border protection efforts.
