Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the renaming of the Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna in honour of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua.
The institution will now be known as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology, following the federal government’s approval.
In a statement, the senator described the decision as a meaningful recognition of the late military leader’s contributions to national development, democratic progress and public service.
He noted that the honour extends beyond a simple name change, reflecting the enduring legacy of a man who dedicated much of his life to the advancement of Nigeria.
According to the lawmaker, General Yar’Adua’s commitment to nation-building, institutional growth and national unity made him a respected figure whose influence continues to inspire many Nigerians.
He further stated that the late statesman consistently promoted excellence, integrity and service, believing that leadership should be guided by merit, vision and commitment to the common good.
Senator Yar’Adua expressed confidence that the institution’s new identity would inspire students and future professionals to embrace the values of sacrifice, patriotism and responsible leadership.
He added that generations of geologists, engineers and technology experts trained at the university would be reminded of the importance of contributing positively to national development.
The senator also thanked President Tinubu and the Federal Government on behalf of the Yar’Adua family and the people of Katsina Central for what he described as a significant and memorable honour.
He expressed hope that the university would become a centre of excellence, producing highly skilled graduates capable of contributing to Nigeria’s energy sector while upholding the democratic principles and values associated with the legacy of General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua.
