State governors across Nigeria have reaffirmed their support for the creation of state police and ongoing reforms in the electricity sector.
The resolution was contained in a communiqué released after the 2nd meeting of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum held on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the governors discussed key national issues and engaged in consultations with state Attorneys-General to review proposed constitutional amendments and related legal frameworks.
They stressed that any move to establish state police must align with constitutional provisions, federalism principles, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
The forum noted that ongoing consultations would help build a unified position among states on the proposed reforms.

Governors also received a presentation from the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning on the National Nutrition 774 (N-774) initiative, which focuses on improving nutrition outcomes nationwide.
They reiterated their commitment to addressing child malnutrition and supported continued work on the National Nutrition Bill to strengthen legal and policy structures around nutrition governance.

In addition, the forum was briefed by the World Bank on the proposed Country Partnership Framework for Nigeria covering 2026 to 2032, as well as the Nigeria Sustainable Agricultural Value Chains for Growth programme.
The initiative aims to improve agricultural productivity, strengthen value chains, boost private sector participation, enhance food security, and support early childhood development.
The governors expressed support for continued collaboration with the federal government, the World Bank, and other partners to ensure successful implementation across states.

They also approved state-level interventions and called for stronger coordination in key sectors including health, education, nutrition, water and sanitation, and social protection.
On energy reforms, the forum discussed the National Solar Super-Grid initiative, which is designed to expand electricity access through decentralised solar power integrated into a national transmission system.
Governors reaffirmed their commitment to electricity sector reforms and pledged continued cooperation to improve access to reliable and affordable power for Nigerians.
