Residents of Tungan Madaki, a rural community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have expressed joy following the completion of a new access road linking the area to other parts of Abuja.

The community members said the project marks the end of decades of isolation that had hindered transportation, economic activities, education and access to essential services.
The newly inaugurated seven-kilometre road connects Airport Road (Bill Clinton Drive) directly to Tungan Madaki, providing easier movement for residents, farmers, traders and students.

Community leaders praised President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for delivering the infrastructure, describing it as a major step toward improving living conditions and boosting development in the area.
According to the District Head of Tungan Madaki, Malam Muhammad Haruna, the community had struggled for years with poor road conditions and the absence of a reliable bridge, making movement difficult, especially during the rainy season.

He noted that farmers often faced challenges transporting agricultural produce to markets, leading to delays, losses and reduced income. With the new road in place, transportation has become easier, opening up fresh economic opportunities for residents.
Haruna also highlighted the project’s impact on education, explaining that students from neighbouring communities previously found it difficult to access the area’s major secondary school due to damaged infrastructure and flooding during the rainy season.
He said the improved road network would ensure safer and more consistent access to education, helping to reduce disruptions to learning.

While celebrating the development, community leaders appealed for additional government support, particularly in the provision of potable water and other essential amenities needed to improve the welfare of residents.
The road project, which includes a four-span bridge, is expected to connect several communities and enhance economic and social activities across the area.
