TROOPS ELIMINATE TWO ISWAP OPERATIVES ATTEMPTING INFILTRATION FROM CAMEROON

Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised two suspected spies linked to Islamic State West Africa Province during a patrol along the Nigeria–Cameroon border in Borno State.

The operation was carried out by personnel of the 152 Battalion in Banki, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), according to security sources cited by a counter-insurgency publication.

The suspects were reportedly intercepted on June 21 after crossing into Nigerian territory from the Cameroonian side of the border fence. Intelligence indicated they were allegedly linked to ISWAP and may have been involved in reconnaissance of troop movements or sourcing supplies for terrorist networks operating in the region.

Security sources said the men were spotted climbing over the border fence, prompting troops to set up an ambush that led to an armed engagement in which both suspects were killed.

Following the encounter, troops conducted a sweep of the surrounding area and intensified surveillance along the border corridor to prevent further infiltration by suspected collaborators.

Military authorities say the operation is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt insurgent logistics networks and strengthen border security in the North-East theatre of operations.

Although officials describe the broader security situation as relatively stable, they note that the environment remains volatile due to continued threats from insurgent groups, with troops maintaining high alert status across operational zones.

Operation Hadin Kai has continued coordinated offensives and patrols aimed at restricting the movement of terrorist elements and weakening their operational capacity in the region.
