A video believed to have been released by the Islamic State (ISIS) after an attack on a military base in Inates, Niger, has surfaced online, allegedly showing a large cache of weapons seized during the assault.
The footage, shared on Sunday by counter-insurgency analyst Bakatsine, appears to display an array of military equipment, including artillery rockets, machine guns and anti-aircraft weapons reportedly taken from the military base.

However, the authenticity of the video and the exact number of weapons shown have not been independently confirmed.
According to Bakatsine, the incident has heightened concerns about the increasing operational strength of terrorist groups across the Sahel, where attacks on military installations have become more frequent in recent years.
Security analysts have consistently warned that weapons captured during such raids could significantly enhance the capabilities of insurgent groups and contribute to worsening insecurity across the region.

Although there is currently no evidence that the weapons featured in the video have been transported into Nigeria, experts continue to express concern over the porous border between Niger and northern Nigeria, which allows the movement of fighters, weapons and other supplies.
Bakatsine further noted that terrorist groups operating across the Sahel and the Lake Chad Basin maintain operational and logistical ties, raising fears that captured military equipment could have wider regional security implications.

The attack on the Inates military base highlights the ongoing security challenges facing countries such as Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, where extremist groups continue to launch assaults on military positions.
The incident has renewed calls for stronger intelligence gathering, tighter border security and improved regional cooperation to prevent terrorist organisations from acquiring additional military hardware.
