Aisha Hanan Buhari, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Hanan Buhari Foundation, has been recognised among Africa’s 100 Most Notable Peace Icons for her contributions to humanitarian service and peacebuilding.
The honour was presented during the 100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit 2026 held in Marrakech, Morocco.
Organised by the Davdan Peace and Advocacy Foundation, the award celebrates African leaders, entrepreneurs and changemakers who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to peace, humanitarian causes, leadership and sustainable development.
Aisha, daughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, received the recognition for her efforts in promoting social justice, community empowerment and humanitarian initiatives through the Hanan Buhari Foundation.
Reacting to the award, she described the recognition as both an honour and a reminder of the responsibility that comes with serving humanity.
She noted that lasting change is achieved through compassion, commitment and selfless service, adding that the recognition reflects the collective efforts of the foundation’s staff, volunteers, partners and supporters.
According to her, true leadership should be defined by dedication to humanity, the pursuit of justice and support for vulnerable members of society.
Aisha dedicated the award to her late father, saying his values and commitment to public service continue to inspire her humanitarian work.
She also appreciated the support of her husband, Muhammad Turad Sha’aban, co-founder of the Hanan Buhari Foundation, acknowledging his role in the organisation’s growth and expansion of its humanitarian programmes.
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening initiatives focused on sustainable development, humanitarian intervention and community empowerment across Nigeria and beyond.
