NATIONAL DOCTORS DAY BEING CELEBRATED ACROSS COUNTRY TODAY

National Doctors’ Day is being observed across India today in recognition of the dedication, compassion, and invaluable service of doctors in safeguarding public health and improving the well-being of millions. The annual observance, held every July 1, commemorates the birth and death anniversary of renowned physician Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Behind the Mask: Who Heals the Healers?”, draws attention to the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of healthcare professionals who devote their lives to caring for others.

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan extended his greetings to doctors nationwide, praising their unwavering commitment, professional excellence, and compassionate service. He noted that India has recorded significant progress in healthcare through achievements such as the world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination campaign, the expansion of affordable healthcare under the Ayushman Bharat programme, improved healthcare infrastructure, and the growing adoption of digital health services.

He commended doctors for their tireless efforts during public health emergencies and for advancing medical research and innovation, describing their contributions as vital to nation-building and the country’s healthcare development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to doctors, describing them as the backbone of India’s healthcare system. He acknowledged their hard work and dedication, especially under challenging conditions, saying their service has earned the confidence and gratitude of countless citizens.

The Prime Minister highlighted the expansion of India’s healthcare sector over the past decade, noting that the number of medical colleges has more than doubled while undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats have increased substantially. According to him, these developments are helping to strengthen the healthcare workforce and improve access to quality medical services across the country.

He added that doctors will continue to play a central role in achieving the vision of a developed India by promoting preventive healthcare, advancing medical research, embracing innovation, and ensuring affordable healthcare for all.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated doctors on the occasion, appreciating their commitment to promoting healthy living, treating illnesses, and creating public awareness about better healthcare practices. He expressed hope that National Doctors’ Day would further inspire medical professionals in their service to society.

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda praised the medical community for its professionalism, resilience, and selfless dedication. He described doctors as the foundation of India’s healthcare system, acknowledging their role in saving lives, reducing suffering, promoting preventive healthcare, advancing health equity, and raising public health awareness.

Nadda also stressed the importance of adopting modern technology to improve diagnosis and treatment while encouraging doctors to continue inspiring the nation through their unwavering commitment to quality healthcare.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio joined other national leaders in honouring doctors for their invaluable contributions to society. He commended their compassion, expertise, and tireless efforts in caring for patients, stating that their service continues to make a meaningful difference in countless lives every day.

National Doctors’ Day serves as an annual tribute to the medical profession while celebrating the enduring legacy of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, whose remarkable contributions to medicine and public service remain an inspiration to generations of healthcare professionals.
