An online petition calling on FIFA to remove Argentina from the 2026 FIFA World Cup has attracted more than six million signatures, although it carries no legal authority and has no influence over the tournament.

The petition, published on the website argentinaout.com, alleges that Argentina has benefited from favourable treatment by FIFA and match officials, claiming the tournament is unfair to other competing nations. The website is not affiliated with FIFA or any official football governing body.

According to the petition, Lionel Messi and the Argentine national team have received biased officiating, with supporters of the campaign arguing that Argentina should be removed from the competition to ensure fairness for other teams.

Despite the growing number of signatures, the petition has no official standing, and FIFA has not recognised or responded to it. Eligibility to participate in the World Cup remains solely under FIFA’s authority.

Argentina is expected to continue its campaign as scheduled, with no indication from football authorities that the online petition will have any impact on the team’s participation.
