Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the decision on Thursday, stating that the Federal Ministry of Works had approved the naming of the highway after Tinubu as a way of recognising his commitment to the project.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is among the major infrastructure initiatives of the Tinubu administration and is projected to cost about ₦15 trillion when completed.

Speaking during a briefing with journalists, Umahi said the decision followed consultations with senior officials and stakeholders within the Ministry of Works.

He explained that the ministry considered Tinubu’s longstanding interest and efforts toward the development of the coastal highway before reaching the decision to immortalise him through the project.

Umahi said the highway would now bear the name of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following approval from the ministry’s leadership and management.
