GANDUJE: OBI, ATIKU LACK NORTHERN STRUCTURE TO UNSEAT TINUBU IN 2027

Former APC National Chairman and former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has expressed confidence that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi do not have the political strength in Northern Nigeria to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at a public event in Kano, Ganduje described the North as a critical region in determining the outcome of presidential elections, arguing that neither Atiku nor Obi has the grassroots political structure required to secure widespread support across the region.

He said that despite ongoing coalition efforts and political realignments among opposition parties, both politicians face significant challenges in building the level of support needed to unseat the incumbent president.

Ganduje also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to introduce stricter conditions for the registration of political parties, insisting that only parties with established structures, clear ideologies, and nationwide presence should be recognised.

According to him, strengthening the requirements for party registration would improve Nigeria’s democratic process by ensuring that only credible and well-organised political parties participate in elections.

His remarks come amid increasing consultations and alliance talks among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 general election.
